ARIOGBO NEWSPAPER

‘APC go na doe’

Tue, 26/06/2012 - 12:45 -- chiefeditor

By Abdul Fonti & Alhassan Bah

Hundreds of opposition members, supporters and sympathizers yesterday escorted the Flagbearer of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) Julius Maada Bio to the party’s Wallace Johnson Street Headquarters amid pomp, jubilation and pageantry.

Prominent among the songs of the supporters welcoming Bio from his oversea sojourn was the song by a Nigerian musician titled: “Go gaga”. That song was rephrased to match with the SLPP’s major dream. The chants went thus: “Go go, go gaga…APC, go na doe…”

The supporters braved the streets of Freetown under heavy downpour.

After rallying through major streets of Freetown, the supporters later converged at the Unity Hall at Wallace Johnson Street in Freetown, where they were addressed by various speakers, including Bio himself.

Speaking to the mammoth crowd after being officially welcomed by the SLPP executive, Mr. Bio stated that the ‘success’ of his trip is a pointer to the fact that he is more well-known than President Ernest Bai Koroma at international level.

The SLPP Flag Bearer went further to say that a lot has been said that he will never visit Europe but that his recent trip to France, Belgium, Germany, England and Ethiopia where he had a lengthy discussion with the African Union Secretary General has proved his critics wrong.

He told his audience that his tour was very successful and that he made known to the international community the recent killing of youths by the Sierra Leone Police (SLP) and also informed them about other violent activities allegedly perpetrated by the ruling All People’s Congress (APC) party.

He added that these sort of violent activities happening presently were what led to the country’s eleven years civil war which the people of this country are determined shall not be repeated.

Julius Maada Bio cited that the Sierra Leone People’s Party is one family and that they would continue to maintain high spirit and demonstrate their loyalty to the party irrespective of their status, noting that the SLPP is very concerned about the affairs and welfare of the ordinary citizens because human beings are the most important resource towards the development of any nation.

The Flag Bearer said this time round, he would use the ballot box to remove the All People’s Congress from power.

“I will not use the bullet this time round,” Bio said and called on international election observers to ensure that the conduct of the upcoming election would be free, fair and credible. He warned all members of the SLPP to stay away from violence as we come closer to the November elections.

He mentioned that he was very disappointed with President Ernest Bai Koroma for him to have listened to someone using abusive language against a particular tribe right in front of him and not do anything to chastise the person or correct the mistake.
