Tejan Kabbah’s reelection to a second term was a foregone conclusion a year or more before the 2002 presidential elections. The same cannot be said of Ernest Koroma as the president confronted with a formidable opponent, is fighting for his political life. Why the discrepancy between Kabbah and Koroma? The answer is simple.

Kabbah surrounded himself with good advisers who helped him pursue a policy of reconciliation and unity, thereby making all Sierra Leoneans feel a part of the national environment. The same cannot be said of Koroma who has failed to unite the country as shown by the tribal polarization that continues to gain momentum. The consequence of this is that Julius Maada Bio, has shrewdly capitalized on the president’s weaknesses as he (Bio) endears himself to those who have been marginalized.

The statement that a picture is worth a thousand words refers to the notion that a complex idea can be conveyed by a single image. Looking at the pictures of the crowds of supporters welcoming Bio upon arrival in Freetown yesterday confirms that Koroma is in serious trouble. And unfortunately, it is too late to reverse the tide of support for his rival in critical areas of the country. If Bio wins or is even just competitive in the Western Area, he wins the presidency hands down. And this seems more of a distinct possibility now than it was a couple of months ago.

Truth be said, much of Koroma’s problems have come not from him per se but from the sycophants that surround him. Instead of selling the president’s accomplishments and his plans for Sierra Leone going forward, they have been busy demonizing Bio. This strategy has never worked and will never work. Bio has thousands of Sierra Leoneans that believe in him, and no amount of propaganda will change their minds. Added to this is the fact that SLPP news outlets have been very effective in solidifying the party’s base and penetrating APC strongholds. While The New People and Unity newspapers have become the gospel truth in the Southeast, The Sierra Leone Telegraph has successfully penetrated the Western Area. And equally, the Global Times is selling the SLPP in the North with much success. Can we say the same about Cocorioko and Awareness Times? These papers are not even liked by many APC supporters, let alone SLPP voters. For goodness sake how many APC folks like Sylvia Blyden?

In conjunction with the above, the crossing over to the APC of defeated SLPP flag bearers seems like years ago. And with all their boastfulness of taking voters to the APC, what has been observed is that most of their supporters have stayed with the SLPP. To make matters worse, Usman Boie Kamara seems to have lost his credibility as he has been vilified by the very people he had claimed were loyal to him. John Leigh cannot even be mentioned in this breadth since the SLPP seem to have been very happy to rid themselves of him while the APC have had only a luke warm welcome for the former ambassador. Wow!!! November will be interesting.

You must be suffering from the SLPPinitis that is currentlyconsuming SLPP. do youthink that herding poor villagers from Segbwema and rarray boys from Krooman Bay will mask the internationarnest atie response to Bio? you can stage manage his "welcome" as if he is an emperor, but Bio is finished diplomatically. The West has rejected him, and so has the people. Only idlers and loafers are having an insane wet dream about their man.

Just shut up, idiot.  Ernest Koroma does not even know if you exist.  What do you know about West to talk about policy, you half-baked APC thug?  Wait until your man gets walloped in November, low life.

RE -. “Looking at the pictures of the crowds of supporters welcoming Bio upon arrival in Freetown yesterday confirms that Koroma is in serious trouble”

Surely, it cannot be out of the ordinary, that in Freetown which has a population of more than 1.5 million, Mr. Bio can raise a big, welcoming crowd ( of course, composed mainly of palm tree part-faithful plus the ragtag they haver been able to recruit from the army of the unemployed & and others who “are not feeling happy O “

There's no space for doubting that Mr. Bio has the potential to fill the stadium in Bo Town – but even he is capable of doing that, should be any cause for alarm or that such a picture ( fake or not) would ( for us) “confirm that Koroma is in serious trouble”

Cornelius,

I agree with the writer.  It does confirm that Ernest is in trouble.  The Bio crowd numbered in the thousands.  That's too many voters for Ernest to lose.

If the crowds that tured up to welcome Bio had numbered in their "tens of thousands", I'm sure that that would have instilled some fear of the devil into EBK....

Major Yahya Kamara (rtd) your analysis of the current political scene in mama Salone is right on the ball. Ignore the APC waffles. I warned them sometime back that Ernest is playing with fire by listening to his handlers telling him Bio will be a push over. Anyway, Ernesto is building himself a retirement mansion whilst our people are walloping in poverty, so he cares less about the rest of the APC caboodle if he fails to win a second time as it is becoming more likely.
By the way the APC can continue heeding to the shouting’s and empty lies of Sylvia - it is fact that Bio has a successful trip to Europe. I am a testament to that fact because I attended 99.9% of all his public meetings.
As some would say "mek we go nor mor".
