Sierra Leone to charge policeman for killing biker Associated Press Posted on June 16, 2012 at 12:00 PM Updated today at 12:01 PM FREETOWN, Sierra Leone (AP) — A top police official in Sierra Leone says a policeman will be charged with murder for shooting a civilian motorcyclist, after hundreds of bikers threatened to attack police in revenge. Chief Superintendent of Police in charge of Police Community Affairs Soloku Conteh told national television on Saturday that police management is "embarrassed by the incident." The aggrieved bikers say the policeman killed the motorcyclist early Friday. A police statement says the biker rode through a police checkpoint on the outskirts of Freetown, the capital. Conteh said policemen are given rules of engagement allowing them to shoot only if lives are in danger. This is the latest of several similar incidents. Earlier this month policemen shot dead two youths in Freetown, as policemen suspected they were robbers. Another innocent motor bike rider was killed by the police in Bo during the Maada Bio Thank you tour. The police man was identified by witnesses. Although several people mainly from the opposition SLPP party including a member of Parliament were arrested and charged fro various offenses including arson to the residence of the Ruling party Chairman in Bo, the police man was never arrested or charged in spite of the recommendations from the commission that was set up. The only reason for such neglect and biases was that the late Bike Rider was a Mended while the Police officer -called White Boy is a Limba man. Now that this has happened in Freetown and the victim is a Temne, the accused police officer will be charged to court. What a selective Justice in Sierra Leone under the Koroma APC government?
