Specky and others this is not a hoax...this is for real! By all indications Alpha Khan is sure to clinch the APC flagbearership come the convention later this year. It has now dawned on all within the APC that the only person who will replicate EBK is the Apprentice irrespective of his scandals. The same is being echoed by non-APCers who think Salone needs a leader of the ilk of EBK for unity and that the only person who comes close is Alpha Khan. With his northern, Temne, Muslim, engineering backgrounds spiced with his strategic and tactical choice of a Mende wife and fluency in both local and foreign languages, Alhpa Khan is surely the man to beat in the APC convention as well as the 2018 presidential election.
The only problem the APC is now facing is that of the running mate. It could have been Vic Foh but he intends to go with his boss Di Pa after which he will quit active politics. According to some sources the search is on for a suitable southeastern female preferably from the Mende tribe to pair with the Apprentice. Some people from the influential class are hinting about a deal in which Maada Bio will be offered the APC running mate a move which will be touted as Salone's biggest and unprecedented political gamble.

Keep dreaming. The APC will never be led by a full-blooded Themne. It just will not happen. Themnes cannot lead. They are followers - blaklaneh.

Dakay relax and enjoy the drama that is about to unfold. Now is the time for the Temnes and nothing will stop that. APC is not a Limba man party, it is Salone's only inclusive party where Temnes, Mendes, Lokkos all have sitatistically significant stakes. If Shaki, a Mende, Momoh Big Waise, a Limba and EBK, a Limba have had their days why not a Temne too? If EBK tries to force any candidate down the Temnes' throat, then he will know that no Temnes, no APC. Infact the Temnes are going to cut the Limbas down to size if they try any monkey business. Don't forget the Temnes are the most influential in the northwest-whether socially, culturally, politically you name it. Do you wonder why we have the following combos among the Temnes? Temne-Fula, Temne-Lokko, Temne-Mende, Temne-Madingo, Temne-Susu, Temne-Koranko, Temne-Limba, Temne-Sherbro, Temne-Yalunka, Temne-Krio, Temne-Fourah bay and the list goes on.And the inverse is also true-Limba-Temne etc. So my friend wake up!

Some of our Mende folks are not politically sophisticated. I guess their love affair with Mendeism has corrupted their thinking process. The most progressive district today since Ernest Koroma became president is Makeni,
a district populated with more Temnes than all other tribes combined. And for the first time in the history of Sierra Leone, more Mendes are moving to Makeni in search of opportunities. So if the Temnes cannot lead, they sure have proven to be more politically sophisticated than the Mendes.

@MK: With so much ethnic intermarriage in the north, are you sure AK is 100% Temne/Themne? Has AK claimed he is?
Remember late SI Koroma? Many thought he was 100% Temne/Themne until Pa Shaki got him to reveal that his father was Mandingo.

Specky unlike the Kamaras,Banguras! Turays,Sesays,Contehs and Fofanahs, ninety seven percent of Port Loko Kanus are Temnes.. The remaining three percent have some light Koranko permeations.

Musa Kenema, you are such a nasty and primitive tribalist. No wonder the Limbas use you like tools. Alhaji Abuja, a notorious thief will be a great choice for APC however.

Late SI Koroma claimed to be madinka because he was addressing a madinka congregation at the time in Koinadugu . It's all politics. To start with, Port loko district has no malinke settlers, with the exception of Foredugu, Buya Romende Chiefdom. Alpha Kanu, though he is crook, but he is full blown themne and I believe that APC is going to nominate him. Either way Salone is doomed.

@IY: You may be right but many online sources state SI's father was Mandingo.
Here is a sample:
From my little research, it seems that his father was a Mandingo man who died when SI was a toddler. His mother then married a Temne/Themne man and he was raised as Temne/Temne but never forgot his Mandingo roots.
Today, many Temne/Themne don't care what his actual ethnicity was. What matters to them, is that they believe he looked out for their best interests.

SI Koroma was allegedly a Mandingo who adopted "Temnehood" for political expediency ...The late VP attended Koyeima Secondary School as "SORIE IBRAHIM" and that is where his friends ascribed him the pen name "SI"to complement his defensive soccer skills...
According to my research,"Sorie Ibrahim" began calling himself "Sorie Ibrahim Koroma" when he got to form 3 at Koyeima just before he transferred to Bo Government School. some of his classmates include Victor King,..Lawrence Harding,..Formeh Kamara ...Renner Mondeh and others)......and the principal was Pa Macauley(Shirley Gbujama's father) I know that Minister Formeh Kamara and Ambassador Mondeh are dead..I assume Principal Macauley is also dead..I have no clue about the status of Pa Vicktor King but Pa King was President Momoh's tennis partner for many years and his son Vicktor King jr was executed by Pa Kabba's SLPP for AFRC'treason') I researched and found one of SI Koroma's classmates alive somewhere in Western Freetown to verify That SI Koroma was indeed Sorie Ibrahim at Koyeima before he became known as Sorie Ibrahim Koroma at Bo School. According to my source ,..in those days, Koyeima School offered classes only up to form 3 level.. After form 3 certification most students landed government jobs and others went on to continue at places like Bo School which offered higher education past form 3. That said, if SI Koroma successfully exploited Themnes for personal political gains ..who says the 'Kholifa Themnes' cannot now brandish and wave the SI Koroma Flag for their own gain?????. But dem all go FAIL!... because The Mandingos already had a President Kabba, The Temnes have Ade Sell Salone to Chinese/ AdeBuyAll Koroma...Therefore the Easterners or the Westerners should have the President of the future.. So,I DONALD TRUMP say "after 56 years of experimenting with failed leadership from the North and South of Sierra Leone,.. it is time to look elsewhere ..at the East and West of the country for "CHANGE PRESIDENT"" Stop perpetuating this North/South Fraud!!!!! In simple terms the Northerners and Southerners have dominated politics and destroyed Sa Lone since Independence wit dem APC en SLPP... 56 years pan Nasty!... Tiffy Tiffy gates...en Killings....EE do So!!!

He is possibly a mandinka because the entire norther regionn is a melting point, but Maforki and Bakeh chiefdoms where SI was born and raised was first inhabited by the Susu people (Ibrahima Konkori and his descendants). The Banta themne from present-day Buya in the Buya Romende, Marampa, Safroko Chiefdoms and Malay-kuray (Kuray is susu for stream) later settled in Bekeh. The only known madinka settlement in the port loko district is the town of Foredugu in the Buya Romende Chiefdom (border with Bombali) and my maternal grandfather is a descendant of those madinka settlers. (Dugu is a madinka word for village). The following tribes comprise of port loko dist: A pocket of Tonko limba in the Sanda Magbolontho, the susu in the Loko Masama and Kaffu Bullom, the fula in the Gbinti-Dibia and Tambaka chiedoms and the themne are the majority in all of the chiefdoms in the district.

Specky, Your research may be well founded. But if SI was raised a Temne from the time he was a toddler, then that is what he was. He would grow up with Temne values and not with Mandingo values. I don't think the late man was in any way disguising his true ethnicity. Similarly, Siaka Stevens reiterated at every given opportunity that he was Limba yet you had folks that identified him as a Mende man. What did SI and Shaki have to gain by disguising their ethnities? If Siaka Stevens was in fact a true Mende man, wouldn't that had diluted the fierce opposition that he experienced from the South east? Sierra Leoneans should desist from this chronic habit of identifying folks for their own convenience.

Falama, when Stevens was trying to set up the one party state, he reached out to key Mende politicians, and reminded them that his mother was a Mende woman, and he embraced their culture. Tin bin don cam pan cam!
He clearly won some over, and that is one of the reasons the SLPP leaders were able to prevail on their MPs to cross over. Do you think if SI had been the Oresident he would have been able to get that party to cross over?
Politicians often mask their true ethnic identity for strategic, opportunistic reasons. They know that voters consider ethnicity as a prime reason to vote for a candidate. Their opponents define themselves in ethnic characteristics that suit them, so they reason they'd be crazy not to play the same game. Also a lot of people are multi ethnic, so it is easy for them to pick an ethnicity whose language they speak, and culture they embrace, and voters prefer.

Falama, the problem is that some Mendes are in a serious political competetition with the Temnes. The last thing they want to hear is that a Temne is president. This is like snatching the manhood out of them. For them, blood is thicker than the environment a man is raised.

Most Mendes (men mostly) do not want to see a themne president. When EBK said that he was themne, Mendes refused to accept and instead associated him to the Loko tribe.

@IY: This wiki piece below states late Pa Sylvanus had both Themne and Loki heritage. I was told Pa Sylvanus' father was Themne and mother Loko...and since traditionally we go by the father's ethnic group, he was Themne.
In a nation where ethnicity is a paramount consideration for voters, multi-ethnic candidates tend to have broader appeal over candidates who claim they are from one ethnic group. Late Karefa-Smart was Themne, Loko, Sherbro, Fula, and Mandingo. Even Koranko claimed him because of the name Karefa. Shaki and Tejan Kabba were multi-ethnic and multi lingual.
I think if the SLPP candidate was Themne and the party did not fragment, the Mendes would vote for him/her. Likewise, if the APC candidate was Mende and APC did not fragment, Themne and other northerners would vote for him. This is what happened in Nigeria, a country where tribal identity is very important during elections.

If Siaka Stevens' mother was Mende, that did not make him Mende. Ethnicity in Sierra Leone is derived on patrilineal lines. Shaki's father was Limba. That made him Limba. And contrary to what many think, the man was a poor mende speaker. I know this for sure because I campaigned for him back in the days. It is an absurd APC propaganda against Mendes and the SLPP to be pushing Mende ethnicity on the worst politician in Salone history. But Shaki himself never disowned his Limba ethnicity. The man was proud of his Limba roots notwithstanding the Pujehun connection that his mother had. @ KL and Ishmael, your views can equally be extended to Themnes. They don't want to see a Mende president. In fact they don't even want to see a successful Mende politician. I know this because I am a hybrid of both cultures (Mende and Themne). My mother was Mende and my father, Themne.

I don't think so either!..so,when SI Koroma had proudly held up the hand of Jamil Sahid Mohamed to praise him for financially supporting Marforki self -help projects ..and publicly stating that they were both "PROUD to be children of Mandingoes"..he may have been trying to "explain the unexplainable"..which is Sorie Ibrahim aka Koroma = a mandingo man. on another note what is Kamaraimba?? ..Is he Temne or another Mandingo/Temne cloned local politician???

@Falama: Shaki never claimed to be Mende. He said his mother was Mende and father Limba. The man was born in Moyamba and attended primary school there.
If they had an approval rating poll (among representative sample of Salone folks) of current and past Salone leaders, where do you think Stevens would end up?
Reply with quote #25
I am aware of the fact that Shaki never claimed to be Mende. But APC surrogates in particular, are in the habit of identying the man as Mende. As far as your question is concerned, Shaki easily comes out as the worst Salone head of state ever and one of the worst to emerge and rule in Africa.
