After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

"APC Greed and Complacency Usher Tsunami on Us," APC Supporter Confirms!

By Dr. Wil Bankole-Gibson (12/04/18)

The author, Dr. Gibson, an ardent APC supporter has eruditely blamed former President Ernest Koroma's presidency for the APC downfall!

[ebkinau-main]

In Dr. Gibson's article 'SPEAK THE TRUTH AND LET THE DEVIL BE ASHAMED - COMPLACENCY, GREED AND POOR PLANNING THREW THE APC TO POLITICAL TSUNAMI,' he writes: I do empathise with the APC in this election but we have to tell the authorities the damn truth that they have dug the deepest grave for the APC. (Photo: Ex-President Koroma with his selected presidential candidate Dr. Samura Kamara, seated behind).

REASONS FOR OUR POTENTIAL MELTDOWN

1. LIFETIME CHAIRMAN

How can few young people and certain authorities within the party so naive and selfish to choose Ernest Koroma as lifetime Chairman? Siaka Stevens was the architect of APC but nobody appointed him as lifetime Chairman. Because of his status, he imposed a candidate on our people that was not fully prepared to go into active politics. People in the party perceived Ernest Koroma as a demigod.

2. SAMURA KAMARA WAS NOT FULLY PREPARED AND NOT THE REAL CHOICE OF THE PEOPLE.

It is no secret that SAMURA KAMARA was not fully prepared for this task. Over twenty candidates went for that enviable position but Ernest Koroma selfishly imposed Dr. Samura Kamara who was not the peoples' favourite. Prior to him imposing Samura on us he had dropped a flabbergasted statement against his fellow comrades saying: " If you think you are popular, go out there and form your own party."

3. MISMANAGEMENT AND CORRUPTION

There were widespread corruption in every facet of society. Ernest Koroma actually dressed Anti Corruption with borrowed robes and later undermine its activities.

4. THE EBOLA SAGA

[ebolavictimssl-main]

Ernest Koroma and his government failed to tell our people the reason behind Ebola. Thousands of precious lives gone for no good reason. Complacency and poor management led to the death of our people.

5. TOLL GATE

Because this is the first time our people are experiencing such development, they perceived it as a bully from the very government they voted for. They paid lip service to the alternative road which is expected to serve as a cost recovery for vehicle owners that are not financially strong. The contract itself was questionable especially by voters.

6. THE CLANDESTINE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ERNEST KOROMA AND PRESIDENT MAADA BIO

We said it but people downplayed us. There was a fishy relationship between these two men. I strongly believe a deal has been struck between these two guys. What about the clandestine visit Bio used to pay to Ernest Koroma? It is high time we start to question legitimacy of 2018 elections. I smell real sellout.

7. SABOTEURS WITHIN THE APC

It is no secret that authorities within the party are not happy about the way things are unfolding. It is evident of the fact that a mammoth number of stakeholders deliberately refused to help Dr. Samura in his campaign trail.

8. THE PURPORTED SACKING OF THE ELECTED VICE PRESIDENT SAMSUMANA

Even the least man knows the divorce between Samsuna and the APC was not trivial. Ernest Koroma machinated the expulsion of Sam from his government which was unconstitutional. He allowed enemies within the party to divide their relationship. As a result, the people of Kono did a protest vote which actually helped to send the APC to the doldrum.

9. THE MALICIOUS EMERGENCE OF TWO SIM

One cannot hide behind his fingers. Ernest Koroma and the APC activated that clause from the constitution simply because they wanted to expunge Kandeh Kolleh Yumkella and Alhaji Samuel Sidiquie Samsumana from the race. As a result of that, eminent and wealthy diasporans had to fall within the said trap. They could not get the symbol because of their dual citizenship status and they had to leave the campaign for Ernest Koroma and Dr. Samura Kamara.

10. HADJ GATE

Our people were furious and sad because of the wreckless handling and massive corruption by people that were charged to run the affairs of the pilgrimage. Big names were mentioned and Ernest Koroma refused to take legal and serious action against these unpatriotic personnel. The Minister of State VP office featured twice in these shenanigans. Even the brother of the selected VP was heard on tape trying to justify the embezzlement of $3,000 from the Hadj funds. Instead of being punished, he was promoted in the civil service.

11. MUDSLIDE

[mudslidevictimssl-main]

Indeed it was a natural disaster but Ernest Koroma should have indicted the said Minister of Lands who sold those areas especially beyond the green belt. As I am writing this article, mudslide victims are crying because of their status.

12. MISMANAGEMENT OF THE FREE HEALTH CARE INITIATIVE

It was a laudable venture especially in the area of caesarian. It is no secret that medical personnel were sabotaging the system and the then government could not give a break to those hoodlums that were working at the hospitals.

13. MINKAILU BAH AND HIS MALICIOUS AND ENDLESS SEARCH FOR GHOST TEACHERS

Thousands of teachers did not vote for the APC because their relationships with the teachers were not cordial. EBK refused to sack Minkailu Bah even though teachers were crying every where for poor recruitment of and assessment of salaries.

14. DIRTY POLITICS

Even at the peak of elections, they keep on making enemies rather than making friends. They tried to stop KKY from participating in the elections, they were behind the arrest of Kamarinba, Musa Tarawall, Alie Kabba, David Tam Bayoh et al in the name of fictitious politics.

15. INTERNATIONAL CONSPIRACY

Because of the relationship between China and the APC government, our colonial masters were anticipating for change. Guy Warrington the British High Commissioner to Sierra Leone and John Mahama former President of Ghana were highly instrumental in this process.

In a nutshell, it is good Ernest Koroma has pronounced his retirement from active politics and of course, we expect him to go with some of the oldies within the party.

Whether you like it or not Ernest Koroma dug the grave of our party but trust me, he will not succeed to kill the party and with resilience, we are bouncing back come 2023.

Mark my words. We are bringing new blood into the party, new ideology, energetic, charismatic and commitment....This is my honest opinion, if you don't like it, it is your bread and butter. Until then, I remain SALONE DADDY....

There is nothing more gratifying than watching an APC on APC fight. Let these greedy idiots fight with each other and stay in opposition for 200 years.

Earlier in the day, as I explained to one of my oporto friends (Mikael W. Gegel) what I meant by ”it's always winner takes all” - with regard to Sierra Leone : ”The president is He Who IS In CHARGE of EVERYTHING (the country's natural resources and of course the one who dispenses favours.) The loser thereby has lost it all. As they say in Sierra Leone, " Power sweet"

And because of this abiding sense of ”Power Sweet” and ”the sweets of office” to be enjoyed, there is a definite feeling of crisis and pain in the APC when after ten good years in power (office) the APC as the reigning incumbent government does not win the presidential election by a knockout landslide in the very first round but instead, by drips and drabs and negotiations etc. in a run-off, eventually has to concede victory to their most dreaded opponent, the palm tree party (the SLPP) by a whopping margin of 3.7% of the popular vote.

As my one time guru Fritz Perls  (the very first) put it , ”To suffer one's death and to be reborn is not easy

But painful as it is the APC is not dead, at least not yet, and God willing the APC will be reborn to ensure the continuation of at least a two-party democracy – failing which the country could morph into a one-party system.

Bankole-Gibson's postmortem, not that I agree with everything he says here - and there is also much that he does not, has not said, but is nevertheless  one of many painful and necessarily sincere soul-searching that has to take place for the rising sun to shine again, first and foremost by renewing itself - and to do that, we have to start by examining the history of the party, from the very genesis of the party (which actually started as a faction that wanted elections to be held before Independence was granted, whereas the SLPP of that day was adamant about Independence being granted before holding any elections.

A lot of water has flowed under the bridge ever since. Since circa 1960 both of the grand old parties, the SLPP and the APC have undergone various phases.

I am hopeful that President Julius Maada Bio could turn out to be a Great President of Sierra Leone, and in my next posting to this forum will briefly outline some of what in my humble opinion he simply has to do to become a great president of all Sierra Leoneans
