After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

If folks were complaining about the uselessness of the APC in governance, I wonder what that may be saying now.

After the general elections in April this year, it was expected that the plurality of the APC in parliament would create a robust environment for interesting parliamentary deliberations.  Far from that.  The APC has been comatose in parliament.  The opposition has virtually been led by Dr. Kandeh Yumkella of the National Grand Coalition (NGC).  Why are tax payers' money being wasted on opposition parliamentarians whose butts are being kicked by the minority party that is in governance?

When parliament opened in late April, APC parliamentarians sure of using their numbers to elect one of their own as Speaker of parliament revolted when some of their membership were not allowed to sit in parliament due to a court injunction against them.  They resorted to civil disobedience and rudeness.  But the police were summoned to the well of parliament where some serious butt kicking of the APCers took place.  Was that the event that quieted the  APC?  Probably so.

The aftermath of the police butt kicking has been the passage of bills and the confirmation of every single presidential nominee without a single objection from the APC.  And just last week, the APC remained silent while the 21 days required for the president's proposed Commission of Inquiry to become law expired.   What this means is that the Commission of Inquiry would now start its deliberations without any debates in parliament relative to its legality.  Where the hell is the APC opposition?

Those who know the feckless opposition argue that many of its members want to be in the good graces of the president.  There are those, for example,  who would want jobs for themselves or their family members in the near future.  Thus, it does not make any sense to rock the boat.  This is truly sad for the democratic process in the Sierra Leone.
