After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

Dr. Kandeh Yumkella To Join… Coalition Of Chaos

Despite suspending his flag bearer aspiration in the SLPP, Dr. Kandeh Yumkella said in Freetown yesterday that, he was still a registered and fully paid up member (Grand Chief Patron) of the Party.

He refused to disclose that he intends to transform his KKY Movement into a political party. “When we get to that bridge we would cross it”, he said.

Dr. Kandeh Yumkella said that, he was no longer going to take part in the rerun of the thirty nine disputed constituency elections in the SLPP. “I have suspended my ambition to lead the SLPP…But my ambition to lead the country remains in top gear”, Dr. Yumkella said.

The former UNIDO Director General refused to answer a straight forward question which was put to him by Mrs. Asmaa James of Radio Democracy 98.1 yesterday, “Do you like the SLPP?” In response, Dr. Yumkella only said that, all his family members have been SLPP and he felt sad that, the party was going down the wrong direction.

Dr. Kandeh Yumkella said that, he intends to join a coalition of progressives to contest the 2018 elections.

On Monday July 3rd, 2017 Dr. Kandeh Yumkella announced at the New Brookfields Hotel in Freetown that, he was suspending his candidature for the position of flag bearer in the SLPP.

Asked whether he had formally informed the party’s National Executive of his decision, Dr. Yumkela said that, there was no need to have done so or even to do so.

He disclosed that, he was now taking his Presidential campaign to every nook and cranny of the country. “In my Presidential campaign, I shall be addressing the issues that affect ordinary people…massive youth unemployment, corruption, a failing education and health system and many more”, Dr. Yumkella said.

A spokesman for the SLPP told the Global Times last night that, Dr. Yumkella needs to clarify his position in the party. “It is his fundamental human right to associate with any group of his choice…His decision to suspend his flag bearer aspiration in the SLPP is a welcomed relief”, he said.

About six SLPP flag bearer aspirants met at the party headquarters yesterday to chart a way forward for the party. Details of that meeting remain sketchy, as we went to press last night.
