Great man. Sad loss. May he rest in peace. At one stage I thought he was going for the Ghanaian presidency. I didn't keep up with what happened to that.

Unlike others, Kofi Annan did not believe that a United Nations career ENTITLED him to the presidency of his country.  Upon retiring from the UN, his countrymen offered him the position of chancellor of the prestigious University of Ghana, Legon.  He accepted and was able to attract a lot of funding to the university.  Annan also served as UN elections observer to many African countries.  May his soul rest in peace.
