BINTUMANI FORUM

After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

Ethiopia Says It Planted Over 350 Million Trees in a Day, a Record

On balance, the planet’s forests continue to shrink at an alarming rate, but reforestation campaigns have picked up momentum around the world, recognized as a powerful tool to fight climate change, habitat loss and erosion. After losing much of its forest cover, China has set out to be the world leader in expanding it, and most countries have signed onto an array of ambitious tree-planting campaigns.

All institutions of learning and government departments in Ethiopia were closed for the day to participate in the tree-planting exercise. Taking such initiative by the GOSL will elicit negative, knee-jack reactions from sections of the media, evil society, political parties, etc. Case in point. In the early days of the City Cleaning exercise, a 'prominent' Freetown academic wrote a lengthy article in opposition to such a noble cause.

I think how you approach the public will go a long way. Something many administrations failed to do in Salone is yo help set up community organizations for public good. Sierra Leoneans generally relies on the government to do all public works and this is a major issue.
