After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

As my dear mother Adekumbi told me at least more than once, ” Despise not the day of little things” - and so I despise not how an underling under Captain Valentine Strasser rose through the ranks of self-promote to attain the self-conferred title ”Brigadier-General” of Sierra Leone's little army. The title seems to have been consolidated and ratified by NEC Chief Commissioner, N'fa Alie Conteh when he brought the presidential runoff saga to a close by announcing Julius Maada Bio as the winner.

Indeed, ”despise not the day of little things” or the day of humble beginnings - such as Malcom X's , the beginnings from which nothing becomes one as in this Leonard Cohen Song in which he sings

"You know who I am,
You've stared at the sun,
Well I am the one who loves
Changing from nothing to one.”

Since we have been talking about the rising sun being reborn in its transit from near death to resurrection , N'fa Jalaluddin Rumi takes things several steps further than from Brigadier- General to mere president and Field-Marshall and Commander-in-Chief of Sierra Leone's awesome military in these famous lines , which begin ” I died as a mineral ” ( a diamond perhaps?)

I died as a mineral and became a plant,
I died as plant and rose to animal,
I died as animal and I was Man.
Why should I fear? When was I less by dying?
Yet once more I shall die as Man, to soar
With angels blest; but even from angelhood
I must pass on: all except God doth perish.
When I have sacrificed my angel-soul,
I shall become what no mind e'er conceived.
Oh, let me not exist! for Non-existence
Proclaims in organ tones, 'To Him we shall return.'
