After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

President's aide boasted about wealth in church, sparks corruption probe

An Anti-Corruption Commission office in Bo, Sierra Leone.

Freetown (CNN)A top aide to Sierra Leone's president is being investigated after she talked about her newfound wealth in church.

Fatmata Edna Kargbo was invited for questioning after she displayed a photo of her new house and appointments letters to a church congregation in Nigeria, Margaret Murray, a spokeswoman for the country's anti-corruption agency told CNN.
"I cannot delve into the details because the investigation is ongoing and she's been cooperating since we invited her for questioning," she said.
CNN has reached out to Kargbo but has yet to hear from her at the time of publishing.

She came under scrutiny after a video of her sharing a testimony at the Synagogue Church of All Nations surfaced online sparking outrage from citizens who questioned the source of her wealth.
In the two minutes long video, the public official spoke about her appointment and how it had helped her complete a house she said she started around ten years ago.
"Initially, I was staying in a two-bedroom house while I was constructing this house, so I give God all the glory for blessing me with this house," she said.
The case is being investigated under the country's Anti-Corruption Act of 2008 which empowers the agency to probe unexplained wealth of public officials.
A presidential media aide told CNN that Kargbo was ordered to go on leave in August. He claimed the directive is not linked to the investigation.

No surprise here that loudmouth SLPP supporters are running away from this post. I can bet the family farm they are hiding behind that sacred principle, "innocent until proven guilty", by the ACC. Unfortunately for them, "reasonable doubt" is gaining on them and can be seen at the rear view mirror.

By the way whatever happened to the bridge to nowhere?

I don't know what the heck is wrong with this guy.  Is it just unbridled stupidity?  He expects others to inform him about developments in Salone but on the same token he claims to know everything about Salone.  Very frustrating to interact with a fundamentally stupid man.

Man put or shut up! King Loggy knows what he's talking about. His opinion is that the bridge to no where is under the Rokel without hitting an iceberg. But it's given to one's opinion and this is mine. De bridge don sink. Now behave yourself and give you SLPP spin, fool man.

Do you see why I called you a stupid man?

Opinion na Laimpay.  All man get am, including u.  But the facts are the facts.  And you know nothing that is factual relative to the Lungi bridge.  Keep dreaming in the negative, kakarass.

The bridge is not a fiscally sound decision. Just to cover the $2,000,000,000 over 20 years, at a rate of $ 10, you will need 27,398 cars or passengers crossing the bridge daily , 365 days.

Do you have that kind traffic travel ling to lungi township? No investor will take that long term risk. It is governments that take kind of risks. Nigeria, the port of authorities in the US.

Concerning Edna Kargbo , TB Joshua has put out  a statement about the matter. Edna Kargbo has been building her house since 2004. She did not just get the funds after being promoted by BIO.

She worked with Ernest Koroma. She was instrumental in getting TB Joshua to send bottles  of spiritual water to sierra leone during ebola after Koroma sent a letter  pleading to the prophet. I think Bio just panicked in this  situation.

On a positive note ,during his trip to Japan , Bio was able  to strike a deal  with a Japanese company that will invest $40,000 ,000 in pineapple production and create 3,000 jobs.
They were able to find about $11,000,000 allegedly stolen by Richard konteh and his cronies.

So much about the complaining Bio's international travel. It takes for any government to attract investors to sierra Leone especially after 10 years of APC destruction.

I hope that our APC 350% to the bone friend KL who is known to dance before he hears the drum has had time to listen to the audios from SCAN which tells the entire story.

Edna Kargbo was already a civil servant before President Bio entered state house.  She has had dealings with State house as far back as when President Koroma was the occupant of that coveted seat of power.

According to her video, she started building her mansion 10 years ago as a civil servant. A time that coincided with the mineral boom in the country.

Unlike information previously peddled out by KL and his ilks that President Bio had "Mendenized" State house, incident like this has shown that civil servants who remained non-partisan were not sacked but rather some of them where even promoted position. Edna Kargbo is one of them who was not only elevated in the civil service as Protocol officer to the president but was made ambassador at large.

By all indication, if Edna Kargbo constructed his house from illegal wealth, then the accumulation of that illegal wealth started when the mentor of KL, president Koroma was in charge of the purse.

Common sense is very important to make informed analysis on situation. Unfortunately many of our folks despite their long sojourn in the west lacks any iota of it. It is therefore not surprising that our friend KL can post and make conclusion even before he hears all the fact.

Kamara,

You are missing a salient point.  When economists make their calculations and forecasts, they do not only consider current demand, which you are alluding to, but also future demand.

The investment in the Lungi bridge will have a multiplier effect on the economies of Lungi, Freetown and other cities in Salone.  For example, the jobs created by the bridge is expected to stimulate migration to Lungi from other parts of the country thereby stimulating demand for travel across the bridge.  Businesses will also be stimulated to grow thereby further stimulating employment.  Look, man the benefits of the Lungi bridge far outweigh the costs.  Lonta.

I have no disagreement with the economic benefits that will accrue from the construction of Lungi bridge. The issue is whether it is a fiscally sound proposal at a time when there many areas of  development that $ 2.000,000, 000 can be used  for.

No doubt , It is a good plan that can facilitate trade in Guinea and Sierra Leone. Nigeria built such a bridge from lagos to the wealthy enclave of victoria Island. Nigeria had oil money.

A detailed explanation of the  $2 billion costs and the financing options will help clarify many issues about the bridge.

Kamara,

The $ 2 billion is not in the possession of the Government of Sierra Leone.  If it was, then your argument would make much sense.  But since it is investor money, Sierra Leone cannot tell investors where they should invest their money.  The investor is all about his rate of return and if he believes it is the Lungi bridge that would yield the highest return on his investment, then that is where he/she will invest his/her money.

People are always to quick to point to healthcare as the destination for investor funds in Sierra Leone.  But do you think it would be easy for the investor to recoup his money in healthcare?  How many Sierra Leoneans would pay $6,000 (six thousand dollars) for a colonoscopy?

Relative to the Lungi bridge, Sierra Leone does not have to worry about financing costs because that should be the headache of the investor.  The contract is a Build, Operate and Transfer (BOT) contract.  Until the bridge is transferred to the Government of Sierra Leone after 22 years, all financing, maintenance and other costs fall on the shoulders of the investor.  Contracts of this nature have been successfully implemented in South America especially in Chile and Brazil.  The Government of Sierra Leone should have taken its time to properly educate its citizens about BOT contracts.

You are right , One cannot say much until the government puts out more information on the investor and project.

If as you say, the costs and headache of the project will be borne by the foreign investor, then it is win  win for Sierra Leone.

Congratulations to Kamara, Francine Kajuga and Fredrikstad! Unlike Amadu Tolongbo, you responded, at least well enough, yet ignore the bait. A lesson for Amadu Tolongbo if he can only allow his mind to take control of his emotions.

My friend, the core word here is "reasonable doubt" not "conclusion"  KL did NOT make any conclusions. So talking about common sense, "despite your long sojourn in the west lacks any iota of it."
