BINTUMANI FORUM

After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

Six years seem like a hundred years at Bintumani.   The year was 2011 and the campaign for the 2012 general elections in Sierra Leone had begun.   Also, the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) had elected their flagbearer in the name of Julius Maada Bio and prominent losing candidates, John Ernest Leigh and Osman Boie Kamara, had started mulling about leaving the party.

At Bintumani, the fireworks between SLPP and APC were in full swing.  On the SLPP side were Sengbe, Sage, ART, Kawusu, Koboko and a few other names that we cannot remember.  On the APC side were Fen Plaba, AFK,  and Kabs Kanu.  They were later to be joined by John Ernest Leigh after Leigh’s baptism of APC fire by the then Vice President, Samuel Samsumana.  These developments at Bintumani seem like a far memory.  The questions is why?

While the SLPP have  emboldened itself and become more robust at Bintumani since 2012, the APC has become weakened to such an extent that it is almost non-existent in this great forum.  Presently,  the SLPP are fronted by Sengbe, Knice, Sage, Bra Enviable, Michael Sesay, Fen Plaba, DMK, and Koboko.  The APC team, on the other hand, comprises of featherweights, King Loggy, Musa Kenema (Olu) and Eddie Grant.  There is an evident mismatch here.  Hence the forum has become quiet and boring.

Call the SLPP team the exterminators and you will be right.  It is the closest  thing that one can describe as a dream team or even an Oscar-winning team, given its intellectual excellence and proven ability in setting the contours of vibrancy in debates before crushing its opponents with an iron fist.

Sage, for example, once easily manhandled Musa Kenema, then known as Bai-Bureh, in the now defunct Cocorioko forum.  Indeed, folks witnessing that one-sided fight had to beg Sage for forgiveness.  Of course, the ever-merciful Sage had to relent.    The outcome of that blowout was that the disgraced Musa Kenema had to beg Sage to become his friend.  Transcripts of that demolition are available on demand.

On the other hand, Bra Enviable has on countless occasions pummeled King Loggy to a pulp.  And recently, Eddie Grant unwisely taking on a David Thorlu was almost battered beyond repairs.  What all of this tells us is that not only is the APC overmatched in Bintumani but it is also feckless.  In other words, the unequal forces between the SLPP and the APC in Bintumani has made the latter almost irrelevant or superfluous.

To make an effective comparison between two entities, one must reduce them to a common base.  At Bintumani, that is not necessary because there is no common base between the SLPP and the APC.  If King Loggy, Musa Kenema (Olu) and Eddie Grant were to take courses taught by Sage, Sengbe, Bra Enviable or FenPlaba, they will flunk out.  And I dare say that this APC trio will not even pass a high school English course.  Yes, it is that bad.

Therefore, we at Okoro Recruiters have begun a campaign of recruiting educated APC guys to Bintumani.  As we march toward the March 7, 2018 electoral date, we believe that Bintumani deserves a vibrant environment that is capable of producing fireworks between two effective polar opposites.

Well written and spot on.  True, Bintumani's APC is weak.  AFK and Kabs-Kanu, where are you when you are needed?

I miss those good old days, and wonder why there is not vibrant debate happening on Bintu now with an election coming up. A lot of those old timers have left the forum since then for various reasons. For awhile the forum became a contentious space as it was constantly under attack by APC trolls and moles trying to take it down. They failed, but the effects of those efforts are with us still.

Also, there don't seem to be defined candidates on both sides whom we can pick apart. I am still not sure who is contending for the APC nomination, or if EBK will seek that third term or simply call off elections on some flimsy invented pretext. Also, on the SLPP side, there is not a lot of back and forth and scrutiny of the candidates contesting the flagbearership of that party, as there was back in 2011-12. People do not want to face the fact that Bio is going to be the nominee again or speculate on how that will go. Back last election there was a rather crowded field of contenders for SLPP to challenge EBK, something like 19 if I remember correctly.

Why don't we talk about any of this? Why does every discussion have to turn into tit for tats and personal attacks? Unlike AFK and some of the other APC renegades who have been driven off, the APC guys who have stayed on the forum all these years do not want to see it disappear or die. They participate in good faith, and I believe they love the forum as much as SLPP forumites.

Anyway, the absence of people like ART, Kawusu, Jacob Kanu, and others who have left is sorely felt. Along with Bra Enviable's more recent departure. I wish they would all come back.

I have to say in MK's defense that since he came to Bintu, when Bintu was founded eight years ago, Bai Bureh, Smart Cavalier, and other raucous figures have never reared their head. He has been on very good behavior all these years, a model forumite, and has definitely lived down the Cocorag past. I hope things liven up again soon. No one even talks about Sylvia anymore. I feel so behind on what is going on in Salone politics.

Well the APC crowd frequently crawl back to Cocorioko, where they feel safer and the stiffest test they face is friendly fire. They only visit Bintumani to enjoy the glow of free speech and tolerance but are really more comfortable at Cocorioko where contrary opinions are promptly deleted.

And so, I was missed , after all ? What a laugh and a pleasant surprise.

Well, I will be back to Bintu, the best online forum today, after putting some things in order. Too busy now to make any commitment.

Actually, it was an idea that I had toyed with before I read today that somebody missed me, after all. If I do come at all,  I will be returning with a lot of experience , garnered from being part of governance and from the whole world of politics and diplomacy I have been exposed to over the years. I have also matured enough to believe that I will be a model of tolerance and good temperament.

You will learn a lot from me, I can assure you , i.e. if people are ready to listen to my experience and new knowledge and not try to troll me needlessly. Humbly, I believe I also have a lot to learn from you because you too have grown in knowledge, intellect, political savvy and in "Toffying".  So, GAME OVER, GAME ON.

Well, if this is truly Kabs Kanu responding, I can assure him he is welcome to participate in Bintumani any time if he comes here to do so in good faith. It would enliven discussions immensely. I know I speak on behalf of the administration team in bidding him Welcome!

The old days sound like they must have been fun. I'm sorry I missed out. Happy to do a little friendly jousting in favour of my preferred party SLPP and my preferred candidate KKY.

Pa Kabbah and EBK were perhaps right for their times given the alternative options available at the time. However we now need something transformational. The problem I see with many of the other candidates is that all they promise is to be better versions of what we have had to date rather than to genuinely move us forward. Until very recently neither the current APC government nor the large field of SLPP candidates even talked about diversifying the economy. Not in any serious way. KKY has been speaking about this from day one. It took a dose of 'man made austerity' for a diversified economy to be front page news.

@Kabs Kanu, welcome back.

Indeed, Sage, current APC participants love Bintumani probably more than or equal to anyone here. The problem with SLPP folks is their romantic affair with something called hypocrisy. SLPP folks will never come to the realization that the only differences between us is our tribes and the environment we were raised. We are so similar, politically, yet we hate everything about the other because it remids us about ourselves.

Listen to Knice:

"Well the APC crowd frequently crawl back to Cocorioko,
where they feel safer and the stiffest test they face is
friendly fire. They only visit Bintumani to enjoy the glow
of free speech and tolerance but are really more comfortable
at Cocorioko where contrary opinions are promptly deleted."

Well excuse me APC folks can point the finger back at Knice for saying that How many APC folks have left the forum because of abuse from SLPP folks? And to be fair also to SLPP folks, ask yourselves why you guys migrated to Bintumani? The reason KL, Musa Kenema, Eddie Grant and Olu can survive here is because we are durable. We are survivers! We fight back and for goodness SLPP folks, as evidence within their party leadership, do not like opposition being intra or inter party.
Take the relationship between SLPP folks and Fen Plaba. He is the toast of the SLPP when he attacks the APC. The moment he returns the favor to the SLPP all hell breaks loose. Imagine Bra Enviable went as far as accusing Fen Plaba of immitating his writing style.

As far as Okoro Recruiters is concerned, the less said the better. For a forum to become a learning place for all, diversity must reign. But when you stuck up with that intellectuall crap and discourage others because they lack PhDs, why are you surprised why there is so much fighting here.

There is so much to say about these SLPP folks but I have company and a $30 bottle of Hennessy waiting.

You got a bottle of Hennessy for $30? My one liter bottle cost $54.95 plus tax. Is it a small bottle? Duty free?

Cigarettes are $5 and change in Northern Virginia and lesser the further south you go. Gas is $2.06 gallon in Prince William County.  So you got my drift? Things are relatively expensive in New York.

KL,

You are very thin-skinned and jealous of others.  Fen Plaba, Kabs-Kanu and AFK do not have Ph.Ds but they are highly respected by SLPP folks at Bintumani.  This is because, unlike King Loggy, Fen Plaba, Kabs-Kanu and AFK are brilliant and articulate.  Fellow, you don't have to have a Ph.D to be brilliant and articulate.

Stop complaining about Ph.Ds on this forum.  You have tried in vain to diminish the significance of a Ph.D out of sheer jealousy.  But Ph.Ds rule the world.  They are the scientists and technocrats and are therefore admired all over the globe.  While your lazy APC butt is fast asleep, Ph.Ds are toiling to make the world a better place.  The doors of the universities are still open.  Go and get yours.

KL,

You can dislike a person but still respect that person.  Ph.D is correct.  The SLPP guys may not like AFK and Kabs-Kanu due to their politics but they respect them due to their sharp intellect.

My friend, stop! Stop oh! I just came back from searching the archives and do you know what some said about AFK? This person said AFK does not think before he speak. And I say to you, please, please, please, next time, search the forum achieve before you make such statements. Type AFK and you you will find out how disrespectful SLPP folks has been to AFK and Kabs Kanu. So please bro check your facts.  I think it's about time you guys decide to be honest with yourselves.

KL,

I have been a peeper since the days of Cocorioko.  And I don't care how want to spin this.  Fact is, AFK and Kabs-Kanu are respected by SLPP folks due to their sharp intellects.

Folks in the course of a debate can swing against each other for sure. But the fundamental respect and admiration for each other would remain.  I cannot say the same about King Loggy.  SLPP folks believe that King Loggy does not have the intellect of an AFK or Kabs-Kanu.

Me man book man only get respect for other book man.  King Loggy norto book man. Plus, Loggy too thin-skin ehn sensitive.  Me man blow.

What all of this tells us is that not only is the APC overmatched in Bintumani but it is also feckless. Correction:sentence openers need a comma

I am just challenging you on your own game and turf out of idleness. In general, I am not a grammar freak and i don't give a monkey about the finer details of any language, let alone the illogical English Language. I am just fine with the semantics.

I flagged this up as a reminder that scrutinising every post here to point out silly mistakes and judging people's intellectual and grammatical proficiency on that basis could be done by any one here. We are also prone to that because most of us hardly proof-read what we post. Rightly so, as we are not emailing an official thesis, a project/work report or whatever to our supervisors/bosses/work colleagues.

We are after all just in Bintuland to chill out from the daily grind, and we are not paid. The usual suspects of this grammar obsession are found in the dark and boring classrooms and corridors of academia. They do not live in the real world and are full of themselves.

In general, the real high fliers do not end up in academia, teaching the same thing over and over. We all know where they end up.

Disclaimer: No proof-reading was done

High School English,

Bo go sidom sarful.  Your corrections make no sense.  If your writing skills were even half as good as the person that you are trying to correct, you will be an award winner.

Sentence openers need a comma????  Where did that come from?

Instead of making cowardly snide remarks, why don't you take on the writer and see how your butt will be kicked.

My ploy to completely ignore the thrust of that article and focus on the irrelevance of the silly grammatical mistakes in the writing was deliberate. It is exactly how you guys stifle debate and discourse in the forum. Instead of concentrating on the gist and fundamentals of an article, all you are concerned with is the ...

Who started the comparison? Quoting you: "If your writing skills were even half as good as the person that you are trying to correct, you will be an award winner."

I am not jealous of you because i have always been or thereabouts at the top of my class throughout my education. Furthermore, unlike you, i am not in the twilight of my career and life. I have still got an even brighter future in front of me.

I am going to step in here for a moment since we were just discussing getting the forum back on track with the election coming up, and I look this morning only to find this thread has degenerated back intot he usual attacks on KL and obsession with grammar and education. You can turn to the forum any day and find this same idiotic back and forth ad nauseum. We at Bintumani do not provide the forum for this purpose.

This stops now. Not because anyone needs defending, but because it is a constant distraction no one else cares about. From now on let's stay focused on politics instiead of this stupid BS. And it is BS in this case too with the claim that AFK is or has been respected at Bintu by SLPP guys. What a load of crap, he has never been so and is banned from the forum.

Kabs Kanu has rejoined the forum and has posted some threads with election news and viewpoints I would think some SLPP forumites might want to address, as well as APC forumites. Let's refocus.

I will warn once if things start degenerating into this nonsense again. Then I will just start deleting to keep the forum clear of distracting BS no one cares about.

Cheers

FA, thank you very much for your smart warning.

FA, can you please go further and warn Olu to stop his attack on Mendes. Mende is a area generic group. Olu does not know the tribe of the people he is debating with. However, he is too quick to point accusing fingers at Mendes. This is unprecedented in this forum and he is the prime suspect. If he has problem with one or two Mende men, he has right to point them out instaed of degenerating a whole group. That will not be tolerated.
Some of us know how we have suffered for no good reason simply because someone has been brain washed that Mendes are bad, Mendes are not to be trusted and Mendes are this and that.

Please tell him to stop or else!!
