Our Government were very slow to respond to Ebola. The weak argument put forward at the time was that this was a disease that was new to us and so we didn't know how to respond. The international community was also blamed for not coming to our aid sooner.

We have now known about the Zika virus and the microcephaly it causes for some time. The international community has warned that we are at risk. The WHO places us in category 4, meaning we have all the conditions for the spread of this virus but thankfully we have not had any recorded cases.

Has the Ministry of Health developed a Zika Strategy? Has there been any sensitisation/education of the public? Do social workers and community leaders know the signs to look out for and do we now have an early warning system in place so that news of any potential outbreak moves rapidly up the chain of command?
