After all, if every economic issue is framed as a struggle between a hard-working white middle class and undeserving minorities, then workers of all shades will be left fighting for scraps while the wealthy withdraw further into their private enclaves - Barack Obama

Because they need money for their upkeeping and that of the church also. Most Christians of nowadays are faithless; they believe God will not answer their prayers except they go through a pastor who is holy enough. And many lack patience so they go from church to church in search of miracles which they think is the easiest and fastest way to realize their wishes. The pastors are taking advantage of these weaknesses of our modern day Christians to enrich themselves! Some of them even use juju or other fetish to fool their congregation into believing that they indeed perform miracles. Some work with devils who mesmerize our dull church-goers and hold them captive. But the pastors too do not get these favours from the devils and juju free of charge; they need to make sacrifices and what best place to get the sacrificial lamb but the very congregation itself which has placed all trust in their holy pastor!

It's a relief to know that you are only talking about pastors generally and not all pastors. I have specially in mind the likes of the Hon Rev. Kabs-Kanu and must admit that if he were to be appointed to the second most important position after that of the President,  the Minister of the Economy, then he would have to talk about money and the second coming, all day long….

Preaching the prosperity gospel must not all be bad per se.

Good question : Do the pastors pray for the success of individual politicians? ( “A thief , while breaking into a home in order to steal, calls upon God to help him “

Are the Alhajis (including e.g. his holiness the Hon. Yumkella ) not the same as the money-grubbing pastors when it comes to talking about the end game? ( As you sow so shall you reap?

Only the charlatans from dubious independent "Christian" groupings do this. They make a business out of religion and live by fleecing the flock. It's not done in respectable established Protestant or Catholic churches so much.
